Cheese is one of life’s greatest pleasures and when stored and served correctly it can make all the difference in your culinary experience.
As any cheese lover will know, different types of cheese require different storage methods so if you want to get the most out of your cheese then here are 8 top tips for storing and serving it right!
  1. Choose the Right Storage Vessel
Cheese naturally releases moisture as it ages so airtight vessels such as ceramic dishes, Mason jars, or parchment paper are necessary to prevent mold from developing.

  2. Maintain the Right Temperature
Cheese should be stored at around 40°F so if you don’t have access to a dedicated refrigerator then opt for a cool room or basement where temperatures stay between 45–55°F.

  3. Keep it Away from Strong Smells
Cheeses like brie, camembert and blue cheeses are especially sensitive to strong odors so make sure you keep them away from any smelly foods or spices as this will affect their flavor in the long run.

  4. Discard Any Watery Forms
If you notice your cheese collecting liquid on its edges then discard it as this usually indicates that the cheese has gone bad due to an excess amount of moisture.

  5. Place Firm Cheeses in Wax Paper
Harder varieties of cheese like cheddar and parmesan will benefit from being wrapped in wax paper prior to being stored in order to help preserve their texture during the aging process.

  6. Slice Soft Cheeses Before Serving
Soft cheeses require more care when taking them out of storage so make sure you let them sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before cutting into slices or cubes for serving instead of letting them sit out for extended periods of time as this could cause them to go bad quickly due to excessive exposure to air.

  7. Serve with Accompaniments
Adding accompaniments such as crackers, jams, chutneys or fruits adds an extra level of flavor and texture making it easier for everyone to enjoy the experience without feeling overwhelmed by too much intense taste in one bite!

  8. Finishing Touches
Try garnishing your platter with fresh herbs, edible flowers or nuts before serving – this is guaranteed to take your presentation up a notch instantly!

With these simple tricks up your sleeve now you can easily transform any gathering into something special by simply adding some delicious gourmet cheese!
