INGREDIENTS
- 350g flour
- 7g dried yeast
- 250ml warm water
- 40g soft butter
- 1 tsp salt
- 150ml milk
- 250g mushrooms
- sliced onion
- 3 chilli peppers
- 200g block of mozzarella cheese
- 1 tbsp wholegrain mustard
- pinch of salt and pepper, to taste
- sliced chives
- 100g red cheddar cheese
DIRECTIONS

In a bowl, mix together flour and yeast.

Slowly add water while stirring the mixture.

Add butter, salt, and milk and knead for 10 minutes.

Allow the dough to rest, covered, for 30 minutes.

Form the dough into the shape of a large hot dog bun and place it on a skillet.

Brush with melted butter and cover with a pan. Bake for 25 minutes at 350°F (177°C).

Slice the Polish Zapiekanka in half and top with cheese, mushrooms, or other desired toppings.

Bake for an additional 5 minutes to melt the cheese.

Serve warm!

Start by chopping the mushrooms, onions, and chili.

Blanch the onions until golden brown.

Add the mushrooms and chili to the pan after 2 minutes of blanching.

Stir in wholegrain mustard, salt, and pepper and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Cut the mozzarella cheese into slices or strips.

Cut the bun in two long halves and spread the cooked vegetables onto each half evenly.

Top with cheddar cheese and mozzarella slices/strips.

Bake for 15 minutes until cheese is melted and golden brown (or to desired doneness).

Garnish with chopped chives before serving warm!
Notes
Serve with ketchup and hot sauce for an extra kick!
