INGREDIENTS

  • 300g polish pork belly
  • 150g one polish sausage
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 courgette
  • 2 large tomatoes
  • 1 peppers
  • 400 ml tomato sauce
  • pinch of salt, pepper, marjoram and paprika
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 egg
  • 1 fresh parsley

DIRECTIONS

  1. Begin by cutting the pork belly and sausage into small cubes.

  2. Place a large pot over medium heat and add the meat. Allow the meat to cook for a few minutes to extract all the fat, stirring occasionally.

  3. While the meat is cooking, finely chop the garlic and onion, and add them to the pot. Cook for a few minutes until the onions are nicely browned.

  4. Next, continue by cutting the remaining vegetables (peppers, courgette, tomatoes) into small cubes.

  5. Gradually start adding the vegetables to the pot, starting with the peppers, followed by the courgette and tomatoes.

  6. Once all of the vegetables are added, pour in the tomato sauce and season with salt, pepper, marjoram, and sweet paprika.

  7. Add a few bay leaves to enhance the flavor of the dish.

  8. Allow the dish to simmer over low heat for 25 minutes.

  9. When ready to serve, plate the Leczo and accompany it with a fried egg and garnish with some fresh parsley. Enjoy this hearty and savory Hungarian stew!

Notes

Leczo is a versatile dish that can be made with or without meat, and can be customized with various vegetables and spices to suit your taste preferences. For a truly authentic experience, serve with a side of crusty bread or traditional Hungarian noodles. Enjoy!
