Notes

Ingredients for Mayo

  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • Small pinch of salt
  • Tiny squeeze of lemon
  • 1/2 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1.25 cups neutral oil (such as vegetable or canola oil)

Ingredients for Ranch Dressing

  • 1 cup homemade mayo (from the Mayo Recipe)
  • 1.5 tablespoons finely chopped chives
  • 1.5 tablespoons finely chopped dill
  • 1.5 tablespoons finely chopped parsley
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Prepare the Mayo

  1. In a jar or cup, whisk together 2 egg yolks, 1 tablespoon white vinegar, a small pinch of salt, a tiny squeeze of lemon, and 1/2 tablespoon Dijon mustard.
  2. Slowly add 1.25 cups of neutral oil to the mixture. If using an immersion blender, you can add the oil all at once and blend. If whisking by hand, add the oil gradually while continuously whisking.
  3. Continue blending or whisking until the mixture thickens and becomes a creamy mayo.

Prepare the Ranch Dressing

  1. Finely chop 1.5 tablespoons each of chives, dill, and parsley.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of the homemade mayo you just made, the chopped herbs, 1 tablespoon garlic powder, and 1/2 tablespoon onion powder.
  3. Add 2 teaspoons lemon juice, and salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Gradually whisk in 1/2 cup of buttermilk until the ranch dressing is smooth and creamy.
  5. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.

Note

Refrigerate mayo and ranch dressing for optimal freshness and use within a week.
